AARP New Mexico to Conduct Free Document Shredding Event in Santa Fe, Sept. 9th

AARP New Mexico is conducting an Operation Stop Scams event, offering free document shredding, this Saturday, Sept. 9, at the Santa Fe Place Mall, 4250 Cerrillos Road, in Santa Fe, next to the old Sears building.  The event is from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Participants are limited to two Xerox-type boxes or 50 pounds of materials.

“This is the event we had hoped to have last April when that surprise snow storm shut things down,” said Gary Williams, AARP New Mexico Associate State Director for Community Outreach.

“It took a some time to get the trucks rescheduled and make sure we could get the word back out to people in the Santa Fe area on what the new date would be,” Williams said.

“We hope that people will take advantage of the opportunity to get their documents safely shredded. Identity theft keeps growing and we want people to take steps to protect their personal and financial information. Shredding documents is one way to do that,” he said.

Every 2 seconds, someone’s identity gets stolen. That’s why AARP launched the Fraud Watch Network – to arm people of all ages with the tools they need to spot and avoid scams.

“AARP New Mexico conducts presentations across the state informing people on the latest scammers tricks and how people can take some simple steps to protect their identify and avoid telephone scammers.
