AARP Eye Center
During this comprehensive talk people will not only learn about healthy aging but also about how making communities more livable and accessible can also help people in staying active and engaged. By making neighborhoods, through design, more walkable, and safer, with appropriate forms of house, and embracing older individuals as a respected part of our communities, all adds to healthier people both mentally and physically.
“We are very excited to have Dr. Simpson lead this discussion,” said Gary Williams, AARP New Mexico Associate State Director for Community Outreach. “Often older people are overlooked as they age and that sense of isolation can lead to people disengaging from not only their community but their lives. And subsequently that leads to a variety of health problems.”
“AARP’s research has shown that the more involved and engaged people are with the world around them, the more physically active and socially connected they are, the healthier and happier they will be. This talk looks at the whole picture – from what we can do individually to stay healthy and focused to what we can do as community members to keep people involved and part of the community,” Williams said.
This free event will be held Thursday, April 30 th, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the African American Performing Arts Center Auditorium, near the State Fiar310 San Pedro NE, Albuquerque, NM 87108.
