Two Important Programs in North Dakota Need Volunteers

Want to make a difference right where you live? Here’s your opportunity. The AARP Driver Safety program and the AARP Foundation Tax-Aide program are both looking for local volunteers.

Driver Safety
Volunteer instructors are needed statewide for the AARP Driver Safety program. You would conduct four-hour safe driving classes geared towards people 50 and older in your area. You would receive training and other support.

You can make a positive impact in your community by helping others learn how to be smarter on the road. For over 39 years, AARP Driver Safety has helped keep millions of drivers safe thanks to dedicated volunteers instructing the AARP Smart Driver™ classroom course.

The AARP Driver Safety program is also looking for more places willing to host the four-hour Driver Safety class. Locations could include places like banks, churches, or senior centers.

Tax-Aide
AARP Foundation Tax-Aide is looking to expand its team of volunteers in North Dakota for the upcoming tax season. Tax-Aide volunteers make a difference in their communities by assisting many older, lower-income taxpayers.

Last year, 126 North Dakota volunteers at 11 different sites helped file 7,115 federal and state tax returns.

Francis “Fritz” Schwindt, the volunteer statewide coordinator for Tax-Aide in North Dakota, says volunteers do not need tax preparation experience. Training is provided.

Schwindt says potential volunteers should have computer skills, enjoy meeting people and working with other volunteers, and be able to commit at least four hours a week from February 1-April 15. Schedules are flexible to accommodate winter vacations and other needs.

Sites in additional communities could be opened if enough people step up to volunteer.
