On July 1, 2021, AARP Ohio State Director Holly Holtzen issued this statement on Ohio’s FY 22-23 state budget:
“Even before the pandemic, AARP advocated to support the expansion of high-speed broadband internet, and the digital divide has only become more apparent since. We are pleased the Ohio Residential Broadband Extension Grant Program funding was restored. Older Ohioans in all parts of our state deserve the opportunity to fully benefit from growing telehealth opportunities, combat the devastating effects of social isolation, and access vital community and caregiving services.”
“We are pleased SNAP benefits were protected. SNAP participation leads to improved nutrition and has been associated with better health and decreased hospitalization for older adults. We are also looking forward to The Federally Subsidized Housing Study Committee report and hope an equitable solution will be developed to continue addressing the affordable housing challenges faced by Ohioans as they age. These issues are critical for the financial stability of Ohioans 50+, caregivers, and their families.”
