AARP Oklahoma vows to once again fight OG&E’s request for a $332.5 million rate hike. AARP Oklahoma State Director Sean Voskuhl issued the following statement.

“Happy New Year 2024, unless you are an OG&E customer. On the heels of back-to-back-to-back rate hikes, OG&E is again back at the trough. Despite OG&E’s expected $400 million profit in 2023, the utility wants customers to bankroll yet another unfair rate hike to the tune of a $332.5 million increase and a 10.5 percent return. This outrageous rate hike would increase residential customers’ bills by approximately 14 percent, raising bills $19 a month or a staggering $228 annually.

OG&E’s proposal for another rate increase, coupled with their pursuit of alternative rate-making legislation, also called performance-based rates, is a one-two punch for customers. This alternative approach would result in annual utility rate increases, adding more financial stress to customers already struggling to make ends meet. OG&E doesn’t stop there, they also want to increase customers’ fixed monthly charge from $13 a month to $21 a month.

Oklahomans should not have to choose between buying prescription drugs, putting food on the table, or keeping the lights on and staying warm. PSO also seeks a rate hike this year with details will be available later this month.”

AARP Oklahoma will need advocacy volunteers like you to raise your voice before OG&E raises your rate. Please sign up today and join the fight.
