Why Pam Volunteers: Connection, Community, and Giving Back

Pam Ford, a retired accountant from a local newspaper, has been an AARP member since 2009 and began volunteering in 2016. After attending several free AARP movie screenings, she felt inspired to give back and soon found herself deeply engaged in the organization’s work. Now an active volunteer in Delaware County, Pam appreciates how AARP Pennsylvania both supports programs already thriving in the community and listens to what older residents want and need—often introducing resources people didn’t even know were available.

For Pam, the best part of volunteering is participating in community activities and connecting with people. One event that stands out was a gathering at Cuba Libre, where she spoke with attendees about why she loves volunteering and encouraged them to get involved. She discovered, in those conversations, just how meaningful AARP’s mission had become to her. Pam believes that whatever your passions, talents, or even limitations, there is a place for everyone at AARP.
