Is Your Home and Community Ready For Every Age?

With spring just around the corner, home improvement season is upon us! Studies have found that nearly 90% of the people over the age of 65 want to remain in their homes and communities as they age and AARP wants to help make this dream a reality for more South Dakotans!

Our HomeFit resources help you redesign your living space around your current needs and abilities. We have organizational tips and tricks as well as small projects that can help improve the safety and accessibility of your home, without costly upgrades and repairs.

Our Livable Communities initiative is focused on building healthier, age-friendly communities all across our state with resources that support all residents as they live, work and age where and how they wish. Coalitions on both sides of South Dakota meet regularly to discuss commonsense solutions to the needs of our rural populations.

AARP SD has assembled a packet of these and other timely and relevant resources that can help you make your home and community more comfortable all year long. If you or someone you love is interested in aging in place and creating a more livable and age-friendly South Dakota, you can request a free printed packet of information by emailing sdaarp@aarp.org.

AARP SD will also be sharing this information in-person at the Sioux Falls Home Show this weekend. Attend our HomeFit learning session at the Sioux Falls Convention Center (Meeting Room 11) on Saturday, February 24 at 11 a.m. or visit our booth anytime during the show to learn more! (Home Show runs Friday, February 23 – Sunday, February 25.)

We are popping up all year all across South Dakota with opportunities for you to share your community’s needs and opinions. Look for us at local events or send us your feedback directly to sdaarp@aarp.org.
