Top South Dakota Volunteers Recognized for Their Service

Andrus Award

AARP South Dakota recently presented Jacque Sly, 76, of Rapid City with the 2024 Andrus Award for Community Service—the organization’s top volunteer honor in the state.

Sly was recognized for her 37 years as a classroom teacher, active involvement in local and statewide activities, past service in the state House of Representatives and leadership of the South Dakota Retired School Personnel, an organization affiliated with AARP’s National Retired Teachers Association.

AARP South Dakota also honored Anita Manning, 62, of Sioux Falls, with the 2024 Community Leadership Award. The 2024 AARP Amplifier Award went to Doug DeGroot, 70, of Sioux Falls. To learn about volunteering, go to aarp.org/sd or email sdaarp@aarp.org.
