An estimated 42,000 more South Dakotans will be able to sign up for Medicaid coverage as of July 1.
Voters last fall approved a constitutional amendment to expand the government health insurance program to South Dakota residents under 65 who earn less than 138 percent of the federal poverty level. That’s about $20,120 for an individual in 2023.
South Dakota is among 40 states and the District of Columbia that have opted to expand Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act.
