To help members of the Asian American and Pacific Islander communities navigate the complex role of caregiver, AARP in Houston will offer special events this month, including videos and a podcast.
Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders make up approximately 7 percent of Houston’s population, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. And their numbers are growing.
“Members of the Asian American community face different family caregiving challenges compared to other Americans,” said Juanita Jiménez-Soto of AARP in Houston. “We need to understand their needs, especially since this is the fastest-growing group in the U.S.”
Videos will highlight the community by looking at the contributions Asian Americans have made to Texas and by profiling the achievements of individuals.
The videos are available on YouTube.com/c/aarptexas.
On Monday, May 17, tune in to a Prepare to Care podcast focusing on Asian caregivers. An AARP Texas Executive Committee member will discuss the best caregiving advice she has received.
Listen to the podcast at aarp.org/houstonptc, via Apple’s Podcast app or on SoundCloud.
