In cooperation with the state Office of Attorney General and Department of Public Safety, AARP Vermont is spreading the word about VT Scam Alert, a new component of VT-Alert, the state’s emergency notification system.
Vermonters can sign up to receive alerts by email, text or recorded telephone messages when a new scam is making the rounds. Each alert describes a scam and explains what to do if you have been contacted or lost money. The Federal Trade Commission received more than 2,500 fraud complaints from Vermonters in 2016.
To sign up for VT Scam Alert, go to uvm.edu/consumer or call 800-649-2424. If you already receive other kinds of notices from VT-Alert, you can add scam notices to your account at vtalert.gov. In addition, you can sign up for scam alerts from AARP Fraud Watch Network at fraudwatchnetwork.org.
