Budget Matters

In order to achieve the benefit of being an Age Friendly City,  advocates understand that the DC budget season never really ends. How the city allocates its financial resources has quite a tangible effect on our everyday lives. Our city services for older adults are coordinated through the lens of the Older Americans Act. It is a model of a core staple services, that falls short of the needed resources to maintain an Age Friendly City. It is tremendously important that elected officials hear from District seniors.

This year, as in other years, AARP DC will work with community partners and District seniors to make budget recommendations based on data trends, and more importantly, the stories we hear every day from District residents.

It is vital that the Mayor, her executive branch leaders, and District Councilmembers hear from older adults in the District on what matters to you. Advocacy on the DC budget is a year-round job, and together we will keep senior issues top-of-mind!
