Fun Times at Citi Open® and the Free AARP DC Tennis Clinic

Tennis Group with Wayne Bryan
Tennis coach Wayne Bryan instructs participants in the free AARP tennis clinic.

For a second consecutive year, AARP DC was a sponsor for the 2016 Citi Open®. The nine-day event (July 16-24) took place at the Rock Creek Park Tennis Center. The free tennis clinic conducted by acclaimed tennis coach Wayne Bryan, was offered by the DC State Office. Bryan is the father of the Bryan brothers, the number two Men's Doubles champs.

Two of the tennis pros competing in this year's Citi Open, served as "guest coaches" for the tennis clinic. Joining in the challenging tennis coaching session were Men's Doubles competitor Henri Kontinen from Finland and Women's Doubles competitor Gabriela Dabrowski from Canada.

Wednesday at the AARP booth
The AARP booth at Citi Open was busy during the nine-days of the event, July 16-24, 2016

The tennis clinic was a high point for the AARP presence at the nine-day international tennis tournament. More than 5,000 people visited the AARP booth during the nine-day tournament from July 16-24. There was an opportunity to win a Fitbit, to express one's opinion on what would make a favorite restaurant an Age-Friendly DC Business, and a try at the spinning wheel to win all types of AARP prizes. It was a great week to let Citi Open patrons find out more about AARP DC, AARP Maryland, AARP Virginia and Legal Counsel for the Eldery (LCE).
