AARP Eye Center
Vida Senior Centers, the oldest Hispanic nonprofit in Washington, D.C., won a $2,500 AARP Community Challenge grant to create a community garden. The AARP grants fund quick-turnaround projects that aim to make communities more livable.
Volunteers have been taking turns working in the garden under the leadership of a gardening expert. The team is growing produce typically used in Latin American cuisine. The food will be distributed as part of Vida’s free community produce program.
Vida Senior Centers offer older people support and expertise in mental and physical health, nutrition, social services, education and recreation.
