AARP Washington is pleased to announce the appointment of Seattle resident Brenda Charles-Edwards to its statewide Executive Council. The AARP Washington Executive Council is a volunteer leadership committee that helps set the Association’s strategic direction and activities on behalf of nearly 900,000 members in the state.

With nearly 900,000 members here in Washington state and more than 38 million members nationwide, AARP is sure to ring a bell with most Washington adults. However, with an organization of this size, AARP means many different things to many different people. As the volunteer president of AARP, I'd like to take this opportunity to tell you a little bit more about our organization and to provide you with some helpful contacts.

The need for family caregivers continues to rise in Washington, as the state contends with an aging population and a shortage of home care workers.

AARP surveys consistently find that older adults want to remain in their current homes and communities for as long as possible. But our needs can change as we age, and most houses and apartments are designed for young, able-bodied adults and don’t meet the needs of older residents or people with disabilities.

After a hiatus triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic, AARP Washington’s Day with the Seattle Mariners is back.

AARP is now accepting nominations for its 2023 Washington Andrus Award for Community Service, which honors 50+ Washingtonians who are sharing their experience, talent, and skills to enrich the lives of their community members.
