We need every candidate and lawmaker to commit to addressing the challenges facing people 50+. That is why AARP Washington has teamed up with the Washington State Debate Coalition (WSDC) to convene candidate debates in October, focusing on key races for the U.S. Senate, 8th Congressional District, and Washington's Secretary of State.
The past year was a tumultuous one, with older adults caught in the crosshairs of a global pandemic that laid bare several issues that must be immediately addressed through state legislation. As you read this article, the 2021 90-day legislative session is off to a running start. On behalf of our more than 900,000 members across the state, AARP Washington is committed to improving outcomes in several issue areas important to Washington’s older adults and their families.

Our national lawmakers are holding Town Halls around the state in the month of August. This is a great opportunity to talk with them about the issues of concern to you. These are the sessions we are aware of. If you hear of any others, please let us know at aarpwa@aarp.org and we'll add them to the list. All information is accurate to the best of our knowledge but it's best to double check with the legislator's office before you go.

The 2018 elections are some of the most important in our lifetimes. Issues like Medicare, Social Security, prescription drugs, family caregiving, age discrimination, and Medicaid are on the line.
AARP is proud to be the lead sponsor for a series of free, nonpartisan, publicly accessible debates for Governor and U.S. Senator this fall hosted by the Washington State Debate Coalition.
