Voters

With the general election only weeks away, data from AARP shows that voters 50+ decide elections. During the 2020 elections, a powerful 60% of the electorate in Washington state was age 50+. And when we ask them, they tell us they want to elect candidates who will address their day-to-day challenges like caring for their parents, siblings and loved ones.
Voters will decide Nov. 5 whether employees and self-employed workers can opt out of Washington’s long-term care insurance program.

We need every candidate and lawmaker to commit to addressing the challenges facing people 50+. The past year was a tumultuous one, with older adults caught in the crosshairs of a global pandemic that laid bare several issues that must be immediately addressed through state legislation. As you read this article, the 2021 90-day legislative session is off to a running start. On behalf of our more than 900,000 members across the state, AARP Washington is committed to improving outcomes in several issue areas important to Washington’s older adults and their families.

Our national lawmakers are holding Town Halls around the state in the month of August. This is a great opportunity to talk with them about the issues of concern to you. These are the sessions we are aware of. If you hear of any others, please let us know at aarpwa@aarp.org and we'll add them to the list. All information is accurate to the best of our knowledge but it's best to double check with the legislator's office before you go.
