AARP Washington clarifies it does not endorse candidates, have a political action committee (PAC), or make contributions to political campaigns or candidates

SEATTLE, WA - In response to a direct mail piece from the Washington State Democratic Central Committee and a recent television advertisement from the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, AARP again affirms it did not authorize or participate in the production and release of the mailers or ads appearing in the states’ Eighth Congressional District.

“Midterm elections are just over a month away and there are important issues at stake for Washingtonians age 50+. Candidates need to focus on critical issues like Medicare, Social Security, caregiving and our financial security. AARP continues to monitor misuse of its name or logo in any political advertising. AARP did not authorize or participate in the production of the direct mail from the Washington State Democratic Central Committee or recent TV ad from the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee,” said Doug Shadel, AARP State Director.

AARP is a nonpartisan organization advising members on issues so that those members can make their own informed decisions on Election Day. AARP did not authorize the mailer produced and paid for by the Washington State Democratic Central Committee, or the TV ads from the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.

AARP is proud of its 32-year history of nonpartisan voter engagement and outreach providing voters with information on where the candidates stand on issues important to its members and their families, so they can make their own decisions on Election Day. AARP urges candidates to address voters’ concerns on issues like Medicare, Social Security, prescription drugs, Medicaid, and caregiving.

AARP is a lead sponsor of an upcoming debate between Dino Rossi (R) and Kim Schrier (D) to be hosted by the Washington State Debate Coalition on October 17 at Central Washington University.  The debate begins at 7:00pm and will air live on KING-5 TV.

AARP does encourage its members and Americans to sign the pledge at aarp.org/vote, be the difference in this election, and vote.
