September is National Preparedness Month, which AARP Washington will observe with virtual training sessions to help older adults and the families that care for them stay safe. The programs will discuss how to create plans, protect property and finances, and learn about Washington’s natural risks.
Across the country, millions of grandparents are stepping in as “Kinship Caregivers” to provide love, stability, and care when it's needed most. In fact, about 2.7 million grandparents in the U.S. are primary caregivers for their grandchildren.
In a year of economic uncertainty, we recognize that many are rethinking budget priorities. This includes revisiting the Washington State biannual budget. While hard decisions are being made, AARP Washington strongly urges that any analysis and decisions consider the potential impact on our state’s most vulnerable populations, including older adults.

Washington's AARP Foundation Tax-Aide sites are open throughout the state to prepare and e-file personal tax returns. This free tax service is available to taxpayers of all ages and income levels. Appointments can be made online, and many sites also accept walk-ins. Most sites will prepare tax returns and e-file them through the April 15 filing deadline.
