Grants Fund New Garden, Trail Improvements

Five West Virginia entities received 2023 AARP Community Challenge grants. Among the winning projects:

  • The National Coal Heritage Area Authority won $12,425 to develop a “Hike Into History” guide for visitors to the New River Gorge National Park and Preserve, and to install exhibits and benches along selected trails.
  • Heart + Hand Outreach Ministries was awarded $2,500 to develop a community garden in South Charleston, with the produce to be distributed to low-income older adults.
  • Marion County Senior Center received $18,431 to buy and install outdoor fitness equipment at two locations along the Joel McCann Memorial Trail.
