When AARP WI held a local livable community discussion to find out what would improve locals’ day-to-day lives in their neighborhood, residents voiced concerns about pedestrian safety and making streets safer. See how AARP Local WI, AARP WI volunteers and community partners took to the streets to address pedestrian safety locally.
We know how impactful $1,000 can be. This is our way of extending some seed money to get these projects off the ground. Next deadline: September 27, 2025.

More than 1 million Wisconsinites provide care to a family member or friend with complex medical conditions or disabilities. That’s nearly one quarter (23 percent) of adults across the state. Nearly 60 percent of family caregivers in Wisconsin provide care to someone who has a long-term physical condition.
MADISON, WISCONSIN – With a projected state budget surplus of more than $976 million by mid-2015, AARP Wisconsin was hopeful that Governor Walker – in his State of the State speech – would have placed a greater emphasis on providing long-term relief for those most impacted by the recession.
Great news! The Wisconsin state Department of Health Services recently released its report on the future of Family Care to the Joint Finance Committee, and the report recommends statewide expansion of the program “due to its ability to control the growth of long-term care costs and serve individuals in home or community-based settings.”
The Grinch had second thoughts before stealing Christmas from Whoville, and we’re hoping our state Senators have a similar change of heart as the deadline nears for them to decide if BadgerCare coverage should begin on the first of the year for about 85,000 low-income adults without dependent children.
We realize that many people have questions about the new health care law and how the insurance marketplace is going to operate in Wisconsin. We’re want to make sure you have the most up-to-date information possible to make the good health care insurance decisions for you and your family.
AARP is a nonprofit, nonpartisan membership organization that helps people 50+ have independence, choice and control in ways that are beneficial and affordable to them. With over 840,000 members and several local community chapters across the state, AARP Wisconsin is making a difference for older people and their families.
AARP Wisconsin is recruiting volunteers to help other state residents file returns in the tax season ahead. AARP Foundation Tax-Aide offers free face-to-face assistance to low- and moderate-income taxpayers, especially those age 60-plus, at convenient sites such as libraries and senior and community centers.
For many Wisconsin seniors, especially those in rural areas where cell phone service is unreliable or unavailable, having basic telephone landline service can be their only connection to the outside world. Losing that service would be a health and safety issue for these people.
AARP Driver Safety is celebrating Older Americans Month by offering a $5 online course to AARP members and non-members from May 1 through May 31, 2013. The course normally costs $15.95 for AARP members and $19.95 for nonmembers.
Rent-to-own stores typically offer consumer goods such as appliances, electronics, and furniture at a substantial markup over retail prices. Because these stores charge exorbitantly high interest rates, consumers – especially low-income families – can end up paying 2 to 3 times the value of these products.
Would you walk away from $20 or more, month after month after month? Probably not, yet two-thirds of eligible Wisconsin seniors do just that by not claiming their FoodShare benefits.
