The quality of our lives now and in retirement depends on making the best use of our resources, yet few actively seek out financial information.

AARP is working hard to ensure that individuals have the skills and knowledge to make informed decisions and manage their financial resources effectively for a lifetime of financial well-being.

That's why we encourage you to participate in Money Smart Week April 5-12.

Money Smart Week ® is seven days of presentations by community groups, non-profits, financial institutions, government agencies, educational organizations, and financial experts, all designed to help consumers learn to better manage their personal finances.

These groups come together once a year to stress the importance of financial literacy, inform consumers about where they can get help and provide free educational seminars and activities throughout the week. Workshops are happening in communities large and small all over the State.

AARP Wisconsin will be one of presentors at the  Milwaukee Money Conference on Saturday, April 12 at MATC on State Street. The Conference is open to the public and will offer workshops of value & interest to all ages. A series of workshops of special interest to seniors is being offered this year.

 For example,

  • A representative from Social Security will be there to tell us how to maximize these important benefits.
  • Aurora Family Service: Center for Financial Wellness will provide steps to becoming financially empowered, learn ways to stay free from financial exploitation, and find tips and tricks to empower you to become a savvy saver.
  • AARP will provide steps to take today for a secure retirement along with tools and resources to help.
  • With identity theft such  a growing concern, DATCP OPP will help you thwart the scam artists who are working full-time to take your good name and money.

Strengthen your future by building your personal financial literacy. Attend a workshop or presentation near you during Money Smart Week.
