AARP Arizona State Director Dana Marie Kennedy and Associate State Director of Community Outreach Brenda Holt have been selected as recipients of the Inaugural 50 Over 50 Awards presented by FSL (Foundation for Senior Living). Honorees were recognized for their outstanding service to aging Arizonans at FSL’s 50th anniversary event held on October 22 at the Renaissance Hotel in Phoenix.

Fighting for 50-Plus Arizonans and their Families
Arizona is one of a few states that do not require assisted living facilities to report COVID-19 data.
In 2016, it became apparent that Arizona Public Service (APS) was planning to be the first utility in the country to impose mandatory “demand rates” on residential electric customers. Demand rate plans include an extra charge that is based upon the highest level of energy demand at the customer’s residence during a specified time period the month of service being billed.

AARP Arizona has been focused on the issues surrounding the previous rate case, which was issued in 2017. AARP Arizona felt strongly enough during those proceedings to be one of only two groups to refuse to sign on to the settlement agreement. With today’s decision, AARP has been vindicated in our decision, and glad to know that then and now we will always fight for the 50+” Dana Kennedy, State Director for AARP Arizona said.
