With a new governor, attorney general, secretary of state and legislators in office in January, AARP Arizona will work on several issues in 2023, including long-term care, housing, transportation, retirement savings and drug prices.
On long-term care, AARP Arizona Advocacy Director Brendon Blake says it’s essential to find out what is causing breakdowns in the quality of care at facilities. “We want to know where some of the gaps are so that we’re able to address them,” Blake says.
Finding affordable housing is another pressing need, as dramatic increases in rent across the state mean many older adults are experiencing homelessness for the first time, he says.
AARP members can stay abreast of legislative efforts on these issues by signing up to become e-activists and sending messages to their legislators.
