Are you an AARP Member? Are You a Veteran? Want to Get Out to More Events Affordably? We HAVE the Answer
Veteran Tickets Foundation (Vet Tix) is celebrating their 10-year anniversary as the leading national nonprofit providing free event tickets to the military community. Since 2008, the Tempe, Arizona-based nonprofit has distributed more than 4 million tickets to the military community. Last year alone Vet Tix distributed more than 1.3 million tickets. These tickets have helped military families to strengthen bonds, reduce stress and build life-long memories. For AARP members, Vet Tix will also allow our senior veteran community more affordable opportunities to attend concerts, sporting events, family, and arts programs.
Vet Tix is a national nonprofit that supports all branches of currently serving military including the Guard and Reserves, veterans of all eras, the families including the immediate family of those killed in action, and caregivers of VetTixers. Vet Tix began in 2008 when Navy veteran, Mike Focareto, Founder and CEO of Vet Tix, attended Super Bowl XLII in Phoenix and noticed several empty seats around him. He envisioned filling these seats with U.S. troops and veterans.
An idea turned reality is now the largest national nonprofit that offers free event tickets in all 50 states. This year Vet Tix returned to where it all started. A VetTixer and his guest attended the recent 2018 Super Bowl in Minneapolis. The organization now has more than 20,000 donors who believe in the Vet Tix mission including most of the professional sports leagues and teams, motorsports, major college programs, theaters, and symphonies companies. Vet Tix’s top donor is Live Nation, who has donated more than $20 million in tickets for concerts across the country.
The Department of Veterans Affairs reports that as many as 56 percent of Iraq and Afghanistan veterans experience reintegration difficulties. Unfortunately, reintegration concerns are not limited to recently returning veterans. PTSD and depression symptoms are still a concern for Vietnam veteran’s years later, showing that poor reintegration and readjustment have lasting effects. The VA encourages veterans to foster strong relationships and stay active in their communities. The Vet Tix program, Tickets for Troops, helps the military community to do just that.
Vet Tix eligibility is verified through ID.me. Once verified, VetTixers receive daily emails of events in their area, to which they can request tickets. VetTixers receive a minimum of 2 tickets to encourage time with friends and family. The tickets are free. However, there is a small delivery fee per transaction (not per ticket).
Vet Tix’s continued growth shows the commitment the organization and its staff have, to the men and women who have put on the uniform. Vet Tix continues to expand its community partnerships to reach more military members and veterans. Vet Tix recently partnered with the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW); the full press release can be found by visiting the Vet Tix Press Room.
