AARP Arkansas Goals for 2018

BY CHARLIE WAGENER
AARP ARKANSAS STATE PRESIDENT

In 2018, AARP Arkansas continues its social impact work across the state. Our legacy has been, and always will be, our ability to make things better for all people as they age and to allow everyone dignity and respect.

Arkansas families are stronger when all can age with peace of mind about their health, safety and financial security; and where obstacles preventing them from meeting their basic needs are eliminated.

Here are a few key issues AARP Arkansas will be advancing at the state level in 2018.

SUPPORTING FAMILY CAREGIVERS
Over 450,000 family caregivers provide countless hours of aide to an adult in Arkansas. AARP Arkansas wants to support these caregivers and their loved ones through advocacy and outreach.

ENHANCING RETIREMENT SECURITY
A secure retirement is out of reach for far too many Arkansas workers who don’t have a way to save at work. Moreover, because Social Security alone is not enough, AARP Arkansas will advocate for policies that would help people build their own private retirement savings.

Other areas that we will be watching include:
Telemedicine
Broadband Access
Livable Communities
Military Veterans
Multicultural Outreach
Senior Hunger

You can be confident that we will make our voices heard on the issues that affect the lives of the 50+ population in Arkansas. We will meet these challenges head on – not just for today’s seniors, but for our children and grandchildren.
