AARP Arkansas Legislative Update

The Arkansas Legislative Session wrapped up its work in March with two important issues regarding health care.  One, Arkansas Works,  a program that uses federal funds to help low-income people buy health insurance on the private market, was approved with an appropriation to continue funding the program.  Arkansas Works provides insurance coverage to over 250,000 low income Arkansans.

Another issue addressed by lawmakers was the passage of the Arkansas Pharmacy Benefits Manager Licensure Act.  This act will allow the Arkansas Insurance Department to provide regulatory oversight of pharmacy benefit managers who play an important role in determining pharmacy costs for Arkansas consumers.
