An estimated 26 percent of Arkansas seniors face food insecurity, according to a report from the National Foundation to End Hunger.  This alarming statistic is why the state has also ranked #1 in senior hunger for the last three years.

To address this issue, AARP has launched programs such as Stamp Out Hunger, a partnership with the National Association of Letter Carriers and the Drive To End Hunger, a multi-year nationwide campaign to raise awareness and funds to address the problem of hunger among people 50+.  However, these national efforts aren't enough to end hunger. Community organizations, grassroots efforts and local events also play an important role in this fight.

One group doing their part is AARP Maumelle Chapter (#5359). They are holding a Food Drive on August 13 to support the Hope Ministry Alliance Food Pantry.

"Food drives are a great way for our chapters to connect with their communities in a meaningful way while also helping to address this very serious issue," said Lou Tobian, Associate State Director-Outreach & Education.
