Arkansas ranks 49th nationally in the quality of its internet service, making it harder for individuals and businesses to use telehealth services, watch movies online or keep in touch with loved ones.
New federal funds will help more Arkansans get up to speed. The Affordable Connectivity Program provides up to $30 a month for internet bills for households with incomes no more than twice the federal poverty level (or that receive certain other benefits); households can also get a one-time discount of up to $100 to purchase a computer or tablet. The state is also using federal funds to boost broadband in rural and some urban areas.
AARP Arkansas will help influence the state’s broadband plans with a seat on a key planning committee.
