How to Opt-in to AARP Arkansas Emails

Guide for Inviting Volunteers to Opt In for Volunteer Communications

· Log in to the Volunteer Portal and search for your state’s new “Eligible for Opt In” report (for ex: “CA – Eligible for Opt In”) to access the list of volunteers not yet opted in for Volunteer Communications, which include:

o Email Communications sent by the state through the Volunteer Portal.

o The AARP Volunteer Update. This every-other-month newsletter, which is versioned for each state, features national content targeted to volunteers along with up to seven items shared by the state office. (For more information on the newsletter and the content submission process, contact Grier Mendel)

o E-Alerts. Usually, volunteers receive one communication each month, inviting them to join the next Volunteer Teletown Hall. They occasionally receive other time-sensitive alerts as well.

· Review this list of eligible volunteers to identify those who are engaged actively with your state and who would benefit from the above communications. (Our experience is that less active volunteers are unlikely to sign up for these communications.)

· Email your chosen volunteers in batches of no more than 3-4 to invite them to opt in using the below process:

o Visit this “Sign Up for Volunteer Email” form at www.aarp.org/volunteeroptin and enter your name, email address and zip code. Next click the “SUBSCRIBE NOW” button to submit your request.

o You may receive a thank you message letting you know that you have been successfully opted in to receive AARP Volunteer Email.

o However, you may receive a thank you message noting that you need to take “one more step” to complete the process.

o In that case, look out for an email from “AARP” with the subject line “(Your Name), Please Confirm Your Email Address,” and click on the blue bar in the middle that says, “Click to Confirm Your Email Address.”

o If you don’t receive the email within an hour, please check your junk mail and deleted email folders.

o If you still can’t find the email, contact the Helpline at volunteer@aarp.org or 1-833-VOL-AARP (865-2277).

· After you’ve made this request, wait a few days and review your state’s “Eligible for Opt In” report again. If any of the volunteers you’ve contacted have opted in, they will no longer be listed. You can choose to follow up with those still on the report.
