Tabor:
The only way to obtain the Tabor Rebate is to file a Colorado Income Tax Return or apply for the Colorado Property Tax/Rent/Heat Rebate (PTC). Without one of these, you will not receive the Tabor Rebate. For people with no Colorado tax liability or who did not have W-2 income with Colorado tax withheld, the Tabor Rebate expires on the April tax filing deadline (April 15 for this year).

For those with tax liability or W-2 income with Colorado tax withheld, the deadline is the October extension date (October 15 for this year).

Any returns filed after these deadlines, whether e-filed or postmarked by the Post Office, will not receive the Tabor Rebate. One cannot file a prior year return to obtain the prior year Tabor Rebate.

Age:
To qualify, one must be a Colorado resident, be at least 18 years of age at the beginning of the year, and file either a Colorado Income Tax Return or PTC application. Someone under 18 years old would qualify if they have Colorado tax liability or had Colorado tax withheld on a W-2.

Similar programs:
The IRS runs a program similar to Tax-Aide called VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance). The main difference is VITA is aimed at lower income working families and usually has an income limit. You can find information about VITA sites from these locators.
