The introduction of a serious illness or disability disrupts the stability of a family system. A family’s response to stress is predicated on several factors: family structure, communication patterns, family history, and belief systems. With
enough stress, most families will display dysfunctional behaviors. By understanding the source of the dysfunction, we can respond to issues more compassionately and effectively. JFS will also explore how to conduct and hold an effective family meeting so everyone can be involved in the caregiving process.
