Catch a Caregiving Event this Fall

National speaker on caregiving and aging Jane Barton, MTS. MASM, CSA, will present “Navigating the Journey of Caregiving” on Saturday, Sept. 28, in Colorado Springs, and on Friday, Oct. 19, in Grand Junction.

Barton, the Caregiving  Ambassador for AARP Colorado, is the author of “Caregiving for the GENIUS” and founder of Cardinal, LLC, which provides educational programs, books and blogs to assist people in the challenges posed by aging, caregiving and end-of-life.

The four-hour “Navigating  the Journey of Caregiving” seminars will cover confronting  the emotional and logistical issues of caregiving, the benefits and blessings of learning to set personal boundaries, and the importance and availability of self-care resources, including respite care and collaborative relationships. Participants can begin to draw their own care maps, using caregiving tools and resources such as CareMaps, Lotsa Helping Hands and Care-FULL Conversations.

“I hope people will realize they are not alone as care-givers , that there are wonderful  resources and people available in their communities and that you don’t have to wait until a crisis happens,” said Barton. “You can have a skeleton plan in mind and build on it as the situation unfolds.”

Both events are free and breakfast is provided by AARP and the hosting organizations. Advance registration is required.

In Colorado Springs, “Navigating the Journey of Caregiving” is hosted by Swan-Law Funeral Directors, 501 N. Cascade Ave. To register, email before September 24. Registration must include first and last name, and zip code.
