The Alzheimer’s Association and the Latino Community Foundation of Colorado are hosting a multicultural education forum, Cultural Competency in Dementia Care, for health care providers and family caregivers.
The forum will be Thursday, May 8, 2014, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at InnovAge, 1265 S. Broadway in Denver. Call The Alzheimer’s Association at 303-813-1669 to register.* The cost is $15 for professionals, $10 for family caregivers.
The workshops include:
Family and Health Care Provider Conversation:
A panel of family and healthcare professionals have an open dialogue about living with dementia.
How to Talk to My Doctor:
Tips for a physician visit. An interactive session featuring strategies and role playing to better equip families for medical settings.
Asking for Help, Getting Past the Obstacles:
How can I overcome my fear of asking for help? How can I gain confidence and feel comfortable accessing resources for myself and my loved one?
My Culture, My Care:
Parallel sessions 1) designed for caregivers and 2) for professionals.
Each offers discussion of the role culture plays in providing care to diverse
communities. Special attention to accessing resources and self-care.
