Have you dreamed of running a half-marathon but don't know how to start? You are not alone.  We have heard from a lot of friends and family post-50 that there is a real desire to stay active, and even to kick it up a notch.  What better way to start than the Colfax half-marathon?  According to Running USA, an industry-funded research group, runners 50 years and older represent one of the fastest-growing age groups participating in marathons. As the total number of runners finishing marathons in the U.S. doubled to 518,000 in the 20 years ended in 2011, the number of finishers age 50 and older nearly tripled to 92,200, or about 18% of the total. If a vision of the finish line dances through your head, lay off the sugar plums this holiday season and head to the computer to enter AARP’s Life Reimagined Half-Marathon Contest.  The winner will have their entrance fee paid for the Colfax Half-Marathon and 16 sessions with a personal trainer who will be your running coach!  In return, we ask that your share your experience weekly in a 100 -250 word article.  As you realize your dream, you will have the opportunity to inspire others.

It is easy to enter!  Submit an essay to coaarp.org  by January 15, 2014, and explain why you want to train and run a half-marathon.  Your essay will be judged based on creativity and writing skills.  You also need to be able to participate in the half-marathon which will be held on May 18, 2014m at City Park – east of the Lake.
