Con artists have latched on to gift cards as a convenient, untraceable form of payment in their scams. That’s why AARP Delaware supported a new law, which was sponsored by State Representative Larry Lambert, requiring retailers selling third-party gift cards to post signage alerting customers to protect themselves from gift card scams and telling them how to report it. The bill is aligned with AARP’s efforts to prevent fraud through its Fraud Watch Network, and had AARP Delaware's full support as it sailed through the Legislature and passed unanimously.

AARP Delaware State Director Lucretia Young will host Sussex County Register of Wills Gregory Fuller for a Telephone Town Hall on Wednesday, November 6, 2024 at 12 noon to discuss estate planning and wills.

That’s why AARP invited Delaware’s own Attorney General Matt Denn to join us for a tele town hall session focusing on fraud. The event will be an opportunity for you to listen in on a conversation with Attorney General Denn about fraud and scams in Delaware.
Senate Bills 57 and 101 passed the Senate during the 2015 legislative session in Delaware. The two bills, both pertaining to Nursing Scope of Practice, were signed by Governor Markell on September 1st. AARP commends these two bills because they improve access to care and expand consumer choice.
On Friday, September 11, 2015, AARP Delaware will dedicate a room for caregivers at the Ronald McDonald House of Delaware as part of the “Adopt-a-Room” program. AARP State President Rashmi Rangan will present a check to Ronald McDonald House CEO Pam Cornforth during a press conference at the Ronald McDonald House of Delaware at 11:00 am. Delaware Secretary of Health and Social Services Rita Landgraf will also speak on the importance of supporting caregivers.
AARP released results of a survey recently to celebrate the 80 th Anniversary of Social Security on August 14, 2015. Americans of all ages continue to have strong feelings of support for Social Security, and the survey found several key themes. According to the national survey of adults, Social Security remains a core part of retirement security, and remains popular across generations and political ideologies. Americans want to live independently, but face challenges around saving for retirement that underscore the importance of Social Security for future generations of beneficiaries.

Family caregivers in Delaware provided 114 million hours of care—worth an estimated $1,580 million —to their parents, spouses, partners, and other adult loved ones in 2013, according to AARP Public Policy Institute’s new report, Valuing the Invaluable: 2015 Update. The total estimated economic value of uncompensated care provided by the nation’s family caregivers surpassed total Medicaid spending ($449 billion), and nearly equaled the annual sales ($469 billion) of the four largest U.S. tech companies combined (Apple, Hewlett Packard, IBM, and Microsoft) in 2013.

The Caregiving Task Force, which was formed with the passage of AARP Model Resolution 57 during the 2014 legislative session, met its deadline and delivered its recommendations to Governor Markell and the House and Senate on May 29, 2015. Former State President and Caregiving volunteer Jeanne Nutter, Ph.D., served as co-chair on the task force to help drive the agenda and ensure better resources and policies for family caregivers. The task force spent many months assessing family caregiving in Delaware to develop a list of needs that will benefit consumers and employers alike.
