Capitol Catch-Up Friday, March 23 Welcome to the March 23 edition of Capitol Catch-Up featuring Advocacy Manager Melissa Sinden. The text of the video is below. Happy viewing! "HB 927, championed by Senator Renee Unterman, would allow APRNs in Georgia to conduct radiographic imaging tests and would expand the number of nurses with whom a physician may enter into a protocol agreement from four to eight. This bill has passed the House and is expected to be voted on by the Senate today. It will then need to get an Agree from the House as some changes were made. SB 444, sponsored by Senator Renee Unterman, would create a Georgia Alzheimer's and Related Dementias State Plan Advisory Council to develop a strategy for the state in response to the growing number of Georgians with Alzheimer’s and Dementia. This bill has passed both houses and now awaits the Governor’s signature. Representative Chuck Efstration sponsored HB 897 which would make technical corrections to the Uniform Power of Attorney Act (passed in 2017). This bill has also passed both houses and now awaits the Governor’s signature. HB 635, sponsored by Representative Sharon Cooper, which would develop an effective review process for abuse related to elderly and disabled adults, passed the House on March 15 and passed out of the Senate Health and Human Services Committee on March 21. This bill now awaits consideration by the Senate Rules Committee. HB 803, Sponsored by Representative Wendell Willard, which would prohibit the trafficking of a disabled adult, elder person, or resident, has passed the House and passed out of the Senate Health and Human Services Committee on March 21. This bill now awaits consideration by the Senate Rules Committee. Currently, the legislature is still in session for the day so we will bring any additional updates as they occur. After two legislative days next week--Tuesday and Thursday--the legislature will sine die for the year, barring any special sessions that could arise. We will be back with another update next week."
