Coming off a national championship, University of Georgia Bulldogs fans are even more jazzed than usual about the upcoming college football season.
AARP Georgia wants to channel that enthusiasm toward the November elections.
With high-profile political offices up for grabs—including U.S. senator, governor and secretary of state—AARP will be setting up tailgates and other activities at sporting events and county fairs throughout the state to educate residents about this fall’s elections.
Last year, legislation substantially altered how voters can cast ballots. “With changes to our voting laws, we want to continue to be a trusted source of information, educating and engaging Georgia voters on how, when and where to vote,” says Alice Bennett, AARP Georgia community outreach director.
AARP tailgates are being planned for the Bulldogs’ season opener on Saturday, Sept. 3, against the Oregon Ducks; and Atlanta United FC’s match on Saturday, Sept. 17, versus the Philadelphia Union, both at 3:30 p.m., at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
