Americans in overwhelming numbers want to age in place. Yet it’s not always simple — particularly for many Hawai‘i residents who live in rural areas.
To help them sort through the options, AARP Hawai‘i is hosting the East Hawai‘i Aging in Place Conference on Saturday, Oct. 21, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The free event is at the University of Hawai‘i at Hilo and includes lunch.
Among the discussion topics: housing options, including staying in your own home, nursing homes and assisted living facilities; home modifications to ease aging in place; legal issues, including advance care directives and powers of attorney; and qualifying for Medicaid.
You can register for the event at aarp.org/hi or at the Events section found at facebook.com/AARPHawaii.
