Imagine this: AARP volunteers are asked to turn out for a three-mile hike – on Sunday – in fact, on Mother’s Day. And after it’s over, they’re thanking AARP for the opportunity. That had to have been a fun event.
Join AARP Chicago on Wednesday, April 25th for A Global Look at Challenges Facing Black Chicago. This event will take place at the University of Chicago’s Ida Noyes Hall located at 1212 East 59th with doors opening at 5:45 pm; the show time is 6:30pm - 8pm.
Chicago- In February and March, AARP Chicago, AARP Experience Corps and AARP’s Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) in collaboration with 13 local churches celebrated 25 Black History Month Heroes. The Heroes were chosen by their churches and were current and retired Chicago Public School educators.
AARP Illinois, in collaboration with the Chicago Sky and 4th Ward Aldermen Sophia King, Jewel Osco, will be collecting nonperishable food items at Jewel-Osco (443 E 34th St, Chicago, IL 60616) on December 12th (from 4-6pm), December 14th(4-6pm), and December 16th (11am-1pm).
On Saturday, December 2nd AARP co-sponsored an art exhibit showcasing the artwork and stories of older Hispanic/Latino adults who have participated in past LA BROCHA art workshops. LA BROCHA is a project whose goal is to offer art workshops to older Hispanic/Latino adults, especially those with Alzheimer's disease, other forms of dementia, or Parkinson's disease.
AARP Illinois is working with the Chicago Sky—the city’s WNBA team—and the Fourth Ward Jewel Osco grocery store in the historic Bronzeville neighborhood to host a food drive, Dec. 11-14. The drive will benefit the Greater Chicago Food Depository.
