As of November 1, 2025, millions of Americans—including many older adults—may not receive their monthly food benefits through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) due to the ongoing federal government shutdown. This disruption affects individuals living on fixed incomes, many of whom rely on SNAP to afford groceries and maintain their health.

Crypto ATM fraud is on the rise. AARP has successfully backed new laws to protect consumers in at least 14 other states and is pushing for similar legislation in Indiana.

New AARP caregiving data released today, Caregiving in the U.S. 2025: Caring Across States, finds that 24% of adults in Indiana — approximately 1.2 million people — are family caregivers, providing largely unpaid and unsupported care to older parents, spouses, and other loved ones. We know that property taxes are critical to the well-being of our communities. But for too many of our neighbors, rising property taxes have threatened their ability to stay in their homes as they age.
During the most recent session of the Indiana General Assembly, AARP Indiana worked with the administration and key stakeholders on House Enrolled Act (HEA) 1493, which directs Indiana’s Division of Aging to develop a plan to expand the state's home and community-based services (HCBS) for older Hoosiers and people with disabilities.

Throughout Indiana nearly 840,000 Hoosiers care for an older parent, spouse or other loved one, helping them to live safely and independently at home. These family caregivers take on huge responsibilities that can be overwhelming, stressful and exhausting. Many also juggle full- or part-time jobs.

Join us for Take Charge of Your Financial Future: Back to Basics on Thursday, May 18, 2017. The event will be at the Ivy Tech Corporate College and Culinary Center from 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. and will offer information about AARP’s free resources and online tools, and the chance to hear from speakers regarding financial, legal and Social Security issues.
