Iowa’s annual state legislative session kicks off in January, and AARP will be at the Capitol in Des Moines working for passage of bills that benefit older Iowans.

Priorities in the 2023 legislative session will include improving the state’s long-term care system and helping people continue to live independently as they age.

AARP Iowa will be actively engaging on the restructuring of the state Department of Human Services and rebalancing state funding to invest in more home-based care services. It will also focus on dementia care and home-modification efforts.

In addition, lowering  the cost of prescription drugs at the state level will remain a key priority. AARP Iowa will also closely monitor property tax discussions to ensure that any changes are equitable and sustainable. Learn more at
