Lifelong Learner? Tune-in to Embrace Aging: A Dialogue on Healthy Aging in Iowa

From January to June 2016, AARP Iowa has proudly supported the monthly community education and outreach series, Embrace Aging.

Created and sponsored by  Calvin Community Foundation, a non-profit continuous care retirement community, with support of AARP and a number of area partners, this informative series shines light on range of topics Iowans face as they progress through aging to end-of-life. Moderated by an AARP Iowa representative, each conversation features an expert speaker and a wealth of tips and information.

Video broadcasts of these events, featuring topics such as "Aging and the Law," "Economic Security" and "Managing Chronic Diseases," are available at http://calvincommunity.org/embrace-aging.php  The programs are intended to help foster discussion and dialogue among friends, groups and organizations about difficult issues and questions that Iowa families and loved ones face as they age.

"Some of these topics are often uncomfortable," said Kent Sovern, state director of AARP Iowa. "We wanted to support this effort so Iowans would have a place to learn about and discuss the difficult topics that come with aging. We wanted to help provide information for topics that are too often swept under the rug."

Filmed at Sussman Theatre at Drake University in Des Moines, the broadcasts are now available on-line to anyone, anytime through youtube.com, and can be found on the sponsor's website: http://calvincommunity.org/embrace-aging.php

The following presentation, "Caregiving in a World of Dementia and Alzheimer's Disease" is moderated by Martha Willits, AARP Iowa State President, and presented by Chuck Wurth, Vice President, Arbor Springs Management Services:
