It ain’t o

ver ‘til it’s over. Technically, my time at AARP Iowa is coming to an end. But it sure doesn’t feel like it. There is still work to be done. In addition to our normal intern duties, like social media, and Age-Friendly business evaluations, we are also prepping for the Iowa State Fair.

I would love a moving send off with ice cream cake and a catered lunch where each staff member tells each intern the most profound moment from our summer here. But who has time for that? There are volunteers to coordinate, we have to nail down the engagement for Veteran’s Day at the fair, we have to delegate communications duties, all while keeping an eye on the budget. No time for waxing philosophically about all that we’ve learned.

But this points out a great aspect of working for AARP Iowa: although the end of the summer and the loss of interns will probably be devastating to everyone here, we have to keep the show on the road. As AARP interns, we have been constantly learning but AARP does not stop working. Thus, neither do we.
