Volunteer

AARP Iowa is seeking volunteers in all 50 state Senate and 100 House districts to advocate for older residents on important topics such as caregiving and the costs of utilities and health care.

Whether it’s attending a coffee meeting or legislative forum with local representatives, writing a letter to the editor, showing up for AARP’s Lobby Day in Des Moines or telling a personal story about high prescription drug costs, members can participate in many ways. Previous experience is not necessary, and training is provided.

Volunteers are also needed for Iowa’s four congressional districts, to focus attention on federal issues such as Social Security, Medicare and high drug costs. Training is scheduled to begin in July, but check aarp.org/ia for potential scheduling changes due to the coronavirus.

Those interested in getting involved can email ia@aarp.org.
