AARP Opens Satellite Office in Wichita's Atwater Center

Atwater Center ribbon cutting

With a snip of the ribbon, AARP officially became a part of the Atwater Resource Center in Wichita's District 1. On Saturday, March 4, AARP State Director Maren Turner and AARP Volunteer State President Glenda DuBoise joined with Wichita Vice-Mayor LaVonta Williams, City Manager Robert Layton, Atwater Community Representative Kameelah Alexander and members of the Wichita Council of Elders to take part in the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Having office space at the Atwater Resource Center, located at 2755 E. 19th St. North, will allow AARP Kansas to provide information, resources and programs to Wichita-area residents.

“We know that members of the Wichita community will be surprised when they find out all AARP has to offer,” said AARP Kansas Director Dr. Maren Turner. “People may know us only as an organization that provides discounts to its members, but we are so much more.”

AARP will provide presentations on fraud and scam protection, caregiving, family finances, and other topics that are important to community members, as well as fun activities like free movie screenings and socials.

The AARP satellite location will not have regular office hours, however staff and volunteers will be available by appointment in addition to the scheduled activities that will be offered. A toll-free number, 866-448-3619 is available to connect with AARP.

If you would like to volunteer with AARP in Wichita, or in other areas of the state, please contact us at 866-448-3619 or ksaarp@aarp.org.
