Statement by AARP Kentucky State Director, Ron Bridges, on Senate Passage of SB 129 – Kentucky Family Caregivers Act.

“This is an important step for family caregivers and their loved ones. AARP is thankful to the Senate for passing SB 129, and for the leadership of Senator Paul Hornback, R-Shelby and his co-sponsors Senators Julie Raque Adams, R-Jefferson and C.B. Embry, R-Ohio. Senate Bill 129 would help to improve post-discharge outcomes by improving coordination with family caregivers, reduce costly hospital readmissions and enable Kentuckians to continue living independently in their own homes, where they want to be.

“During this process, AARP has heard from many of the 650,000 family caregivers across Kentucky who struggling to care for older parents, spouses, friends, or other loved ones so they can continue living independently at home. The Kentucky Family Caregivers Act would provide them with the crucial support they need.

“AARP salutes the family caregivers in Kentucky and looks forward to working with lawmakers in the House to help strengthen support for them, we are hopeful they will follow the Senate’s lead.”
