AARP is educating adults 50 and over about third-party energy suppliers as part of its Fraud Watch Friday webinars and plans to hold an energy conference this fall on ways to strengthen state laws to better protect consumers.

ANNAPOLIS (April 9, 2021) -- The General Assembly took significant steps late yesterday to protect low-income Marylanders’ utility bills, while also maximizing state funds, with the passage of SB31/HB397. The legislation ensures that deregulated electricity and natural gas prices offered to families on energy assistance meet, or beat, regulated utility rates.

AARP’s commitment to educating and advocating for people over 50 started with the National Retired Teachers Association (NRTA), which represents the interests of educators 50 and older. The organization has a national network of nearly a million retired educators and school personnel.
