Updated May 22 2017: The Spring Food Drive for 2017 is now over, and was a huge success! 30 stores across the state participated, with volunteer and food donors giving their all for this important cause. Read our special wrap-up blog for final drive numbers and to find photos from the various stores and volunteers. Thank you to all who helped in 2017! Is there information about AARP issues and events that you’d like to share with others? AARP Maryland is making that easier with the April 1 launch of its Social Squad, a team of social media ambassadors who will share AARP news and information via Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube and other platforms. The effort is powered by SocialToaster, a fan engagement platform.

AARP Maryland and Baltimore County Restoring Elder Safety Today (BC-REST) invite Baltimore County area residents to learn about preventing elder abuse and take time to shred unneeded documents for free during an event on Thursday, June 15. The shred will take place as part of the BC-REST World Elder Abuse Awareness Day Forum. Register for free for this event!

Marylanders overwhelmingly (81%) want the legislature work to maintain affordable, reliable, and high quality traditional telephone service, according to a recent AARP Public Policy Institute survey.

Maryland is home to a projected 380,000 veterans in 2018, and AARP is very proud to support this group! In addition, about 20 percent of our more than 896,000 AARP members in Maryland are veterans (approximately 178,000).

AARP is proud to be part of a new Dementia Friendly America (DFA) initiative in Montgomery County. Montgomery County joins seven other communities across the nation in this movement, including Boston, Denver and Prince George’s County, MD. AARP has joined other organizations and community leaders, including the Montgomery County Area Office on Aging and BrightFocus.
