The Massachusetts House and Senate passed long-term care reform. The move would bring stricter regulations to nursing homes and other assisted living settings. The bill awaits Gov. Healey's signature. AARP is urging to sign the legislation as soon as possible.
Gov. Maura Healey signed the Affordable Homes Act into law Tuesday, August 6. A key provision in the legislation allows for Accessory Dwelling Units to be built 'by right'. AARP has been fighting for that provision for months. ADUs are a family-friendly, community-creating type of housing the nation needs more of.
The Massachusetts Legislature failed to pass final legislation that would strengthen regulations in long term care facilities despite approving reforms in both the House and the Senate. A housing bill that will allow for accessory dwelling units was passed. That bill moves on to the governor who is expected to sign it.
