“Deciding when to claim Social Security and which Medicare plan to sign up for are two of the biggest decisions you must make.” Says Mike Festa, AARP Massachusetts State Director “AARP can help with resources, expert content, and tools to manage Medicare and Social Security decisions.”

The discussion will help attendees learn how to estimate what their monthly Social Security benefits will be, the process of claiming benefits and rundown the circumstances that may affect the size of those payments, such as marital status, years in the workforce and timing to claim benefits.

This presentation will be especially beneficial for those not yet on Medicare who want to learn about how the coverage works so they can best plan for Medicare as part of their finances in retirement. A representative from the SHINE Program (Serving the Health Insurance Needs of Everyone) will explain the program and be available to answer questions. SHINE provides free health insurance information, counseling and assistance to all Massachusetts residents with Medicare. Medicare open enrollment begins October 15th. AARP encourages those who have Medicare to review their elections and options each year during Open Enrollment and choose the plan or plans that best fit their needs

“You worked hard for your money so it’s only fair you get everything you’ve earned and that you understand your healthcare options. Come and get answers to your questions on Social Security and Medicare and join us for a free light buffet breakfast” said Sandra Harris, AARP Massachusetts State President.

The event is open to everyone. AARP membership is not necessary. Registration is required. You can do so here.

If you can't attend, we have a virtual event explaining Social Security October 26th. This discussion will focus on the decisions you will be making about when to claim Social Security benefits and what implications those choices may have on your finances.
